Illustration Friday—Highlight

Why is it we are always glad to see the end of a year and hope the next one is better? I think it's because by the time we reach December and all the end of the year holidays we are exhausted. We're glad to get rid of the old year, not because we are tired of it, but because we are just plain tired. I know I am. This New Year's Eve will see me at home with my love and a few close friends who will likely make their way out for a night on the town or home to bed well before midnight. Twelve months is a long time and so much happens. I'm going to try not to let my tiredness color my view of the past year. Lots of changes but the important things still remain: family and friends. Our Christmas card this year said, "All that we behold is a Blessing."

Illustration Friday—Separated

Separated by color and still the same. I guess we could say the same about people. Of course there's still dogma, ideology and bike lanes to keep us divided.

Illustration Friday—Brigade

Today starts the cookie brigade. I'm making three of my late Mother's Christmas cookie recipes. The fourth, I've given up on. I just can't get them to work. She made it look so easy. I watch and helped for years. I thought it would be a no brainer. I thought wrong. This is a Bird's Nest cookie. I don't get this one exactly right either. My Dad and brothers however, think they are wonderful and welcome them every year. Those guys are the best.
